Bikini Line Shaving: A Step-by-Step Guide
Technique · May 22, 2026 · 6 min read
This is the area where technique pays off most. Follow the same order every time and it stops being a gamble.
1. Trim
Take hair down to roughly a quarter inch with scissors or a trimmer. This one step removes most of the pulling and clogging.
2. Soften, then lather
Three to five minutes of warm water, then a generous layer of fragrance-free shave gel or cream. Never bar soap here.
3. Shave with the grain, skin flat
Use your free hand to hold the skin flat, not stretched tight. Short strokes in the direction the hair grows. Rinse the razor often. Do not go over the same spot repeatedly.
4. Use a near-new blade
Start this area on a cartridge with no more than one or two previous shaves. It is the least forgiving skin on your body.
5. Aftercare
Cool rinse, pat dry, light fragrance-free moisturizer, loose cotton underwear. Exfoliate gently a couple of days later, not the same day.
The bottom line
Trim, soften, lather, one with-the-grain pass on flat skin with a near-new blade, then loose cotton.
