How to Shave Your Underarms Without Irritation
Technique · January 30, 2026 · 5 min read
The underarm is small, folded, and grows hair in multiple directions. That is why a single downward sweep leaves patches and why irritation is so common there.
Flatten the area first
Raise your arm fully overhead and rest your hand behind your head. This stretches the skin naturally flat so you are not shaving into a fold.
Shave in several directions, lightly
Underarm hair grows down, up and sideways depending on the spot. Work in short strokes going down, then up, then across, re-lathering between directions. Light pressure throughout.
Deodorant timing
Freshly shaved underarms are exfoliated skin. Antiperspirant applied immediately often stings. Wait if you can, or switch to a fragrance-free formula and apply to fully dry skin.
Aftercare
Cool rinse, pat dry, light fragrance-free moisturizer. If you get recurring bumps, try shaving at night so the area has hours to settle before deodorant and clothing.
The bottom line
Arm overhead, short strokes in several directions, re-lather, and give the skin time before deodorant.
Fresh blades in 6, 12, 18 and 24 packs. Pause, skip or cancel online at any time.
