Razor Hygiene: Why You Should Never Store It in the Shower

Blade care · March 20, 2026 · 4 min read

The shower caddy is the most convenient and the worst possible home for a razor. Constant humidity corrodes the edge and keeps the cartridge damp between uses.

Rinse properly

Push hot water through the back of the head so hair and gel exit the front. Never tap the edge on the tub or wipe it on a towel — both roll the edge.

Dry and store upright

Shake off water and stand the razor head-up on a dry surface outside the shower. A cabinet or a dry ledge with airflow is ideal.

Do not share, and replace after illness

Razors carry skin cells and blood traces. Keep yours to yourself, and start a fresh cartridge if you have had a skin infection.

The bottom line

Rinse from behind, shake dry, stand it upright outside the shower, and never share it.
