How to Clean and Store Your Razor So Blades Last Longer
Blade care · April 2, 2026 · 4 min read
Most blades die of corrosion, not use. A cartridge sitting edge-down in shower water dulls in days regardless of how carefully you shaved with it.
Rinse from the back, not the front
Run hot water through the back of the head so debris is pushed out the front. Never scrape the edge against the sink or a towel — that rolls the edge instantly.
Shake dry and store upright, out of the shower
Shake off the water, then stand the razor head-up somewhere dry and ventilated. The shower shelf is the worst place in the bathroom: constant humidity, constant corrosion.
Keep spares sealed and dry
Store unopened refills in their packaging in a drawer or cabinet, not on a damp shelf. Sealed and dry, cartridges keep for years.
The bottom line
Rinse from behind, shake, stand it upright outside the shower. That alone often adds two or three good shaves per cartridge.
