Is Pre-Shave Oil Worth It?

Products · May 28, 2026 · 4 min read

Pre-shave oil adds a slip layer under your lather. For coarse hair and sensitive skin that extra glide is noticeable. For fine hair and an already comfortable shave it is mostly a clogged cartridge.

Who benefits

Men with coarse or curly hair, men who still get drag with cream alone, and men shaving very dry skin in winter. If your current shave burns, it is worth two weeks of testing.

How to use it properly

A few drops only, massaged into damp skin after water prep, then lather on top. Too much and you are rinsing your razor head every stroke.

When to skip it

Fine hair, acne-prone skin, or a shave that is already comfortable. Extra product on comfortable skin solves nothing.

The bottom line

Coarse hair or sensitive skin: try a few drops under your lather. Otherwise, skip it.

Fresh blades in 6, 12, 18 and 24 packs. Pause, skip or cancel online at any time.
